OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING COVID-19 (Coronavirus) from American Legion Auxiliary Oklahoma Girls State

March 16, 2020

American Legion Auxiliary Oklahoma Girls State is closely monitoring developments concerning COVID-19 (coronavirus) across Oklahoma. Currently, the situation is very fluid and updates on the COVID-19 are frequently changing as medical professionals are updating the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  We are monitoring the situation daily and are working closely with our host institution, the University of Oklahoma in Norman, to stay informed should the situation change.

The University of Oklahoma has posted an informational website related to COVID-10.  The information can be found at

Currently, neither the University of Oklahoma, state, or local health officials in Norman are recommending that we alter the ALA Oklahoma Girls State schedule for May.  Therefore, we are moving forward with planning for our 2020 session. We look forward to hosting the 78th session of ALA Oklahoma Girls State from May 24-29, 2020 on the campus of the University of Oklahoma

We will continue to monitor developments related to COVID-19 with the well-being and safety of ALA Oklahoma Girls State participants and our volunteer staff as our top priority.

If the status of our program changes we will notify those interested immediately.

If you have specific questions, please contact us as or (405) 820-7884.

A few things you should know before you arrive:

    • Oklahoma Girls State is a patriotic, non-partisan government program that emphasizes God and County.  There will be prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance daily.
    • Girls State delegates are not allowed to choose their roommates.
    • Visitors are ONLY allowed for the closing ceremonies on Friday.  If anything needs to be delivered to a Girls State delegate during the week, it must go to the Oklahoma Girls State office in the dorms.

Upon arrival, delegates will be required to give the university a $20 cash deposit to receive the keys to your room.  This deposit is refundable at the end of the week.

Oklahoma Girls State is also collecting funds for our service project.  We are asking each participant to voluntarily bring a $5 donation that will go to the American Legion Auxiliary to commemorate it’s 100th year of service.

Delegates must attend the entire session (May 24– May 29) without interruption and attend the closing ceremony to be a Girls State graduate.  Once a delegate checks out, she will not be permitted to return.  Please do not ask to come late or leave early.

Girls State citizens who choose to drive themselves will be required to deposit their car keys with their Girls State Counselor and will not be allowed access to their car during the week.
