What To Bring

Review our what to bring slideshow here!

You will be sharing a dorm room, and space is limited so please pack selectively.  Please make sure that your luggage is tagged so that you will be able to avoid mix-ups.  Every effort will be made to safeguard your property, but we cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage to personal items.  DO NOT bring valuable jewelry or other expensive items.

There is lots of walking and stairs to climb.  Therefore, COMFORTABLE shoes are a must.  We suggest you bring a pair of tennis shoes for walking between buildings.  You also might want to bring an umbrella since it usually rains during the week.

DRESS CODE: Each day we have guests and dignitaries on campus.  Oklahoma Girls State prides itself on the appearance of our citizens.  We ask that you keep up the tradition.  Your dress should demonstrate that you have both a sense of personal dignity, modesty and a sense of what is appropriate for school and public events. Therefore, please click the button below to review the dress code.

It will be in the sole discretion of Oklahoma Girls State staff to determine whether a particular article is in compliance with the dress code.  The rule of thumb is, “If you have any question about the appropriateness of you attire…Leave it at home.”

BEDDING, TOWELS, TOILETRIES: Bring twin sheets, a blanket, bedspread, mattress cover, and a pillow with pillowcase.  The bathroom is shared with other delegates.  Bring towels, washcloths, soap, and additional toiletries.

MEDICINE: If you are taking medication, inform the Girls State Office when you register.  If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you.  If you have special health concerns, please contact us before Girls State.  Girls State is a fast-paced program with long hours.

CAMPAIGN MATERIALS:  Campaigning is a fun and exciting part of ALA Oklahoma Girls State. This year we are moving campaigning to a virtual platform. There will not be a need for campaign material.

MONEY:   You may bring money for vending machines and purchases from the Girls State Store. The Girls State store has many fun Girls State items including Girls State t-shirts. Please note, if you lose your room key, you will be charged $50 at the end of camp.

SERVICE PROJECT:  We are asking all participants to bring at least $5 for a voluntary donation to the American Legion Auxiliary.
